Lets talk about the advantages of gas forklift trucks. Many operators choose gas over electric and diesel when purchasing a new and used forklifts with 5,000 – 10,000 lb capacity below is why that is.
Gas forklifts are cheaper to purchase by between 10-15% however fuel costs are more than their counterparts.
We are talking 5 minutes to change a cylinder on a gas forklift where 8 hrs might be needed to fully charge an electric forklift.
Due to their popularity in the UK gas forklifts are always available new and used at good prices, they are almost always cheaper than electric and diesel forklifts.
Gas is clean burning and research shows that properly maintained gas trucks produce much less carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, hydrocarbon, and particulate matter than diesel-powered forklifts also they produce no soot so unlike diesel and petrol these can be used inside and out. ( Note some food handling warehouses would require zero emissions and demand the use of an electric forklift. ) Gas forklifts are also quieter which we see as a great safety feature, the more you can lower noise within a yard or warehouse the safer your workers are.
Speeds and acceleration are higher than electric and many diesel forklifts, and general performance and that combined with low emissions are a great choice for indoor and outdoor use.
Parts are readily available and often at very competitive prices.
They may need some winter maintenance during very cold weather to ensure good operation
Costs to maintain are generally higher than electric and Diesel versions as are fuel costs.
Requires a driver with a higher skill level than electric and Diesel.
