A forklifts age is measured in operational hours. The average forklift will run around 2000 hours a year and the average lifespan of a forklift has been calculated as 10,000 hours. of course this does vary depending on manufacturer some such as Toyota can last up to 20,000 hours
More rapid ageing can also be caused such things as :
- Cold Temperatures
- Used for multiple shifts per day
- Constant lifting of very heavy weights
- Gas V Electric Forklifts
Trucks used mostly indoors like electric forklifts will differ in life expectancy as they aren’t exposed to the elements and cold. If you have a fleet it might be a good idea to rotate them between in doors and outdoors if you can. Electric forklifts as a rule last longer than combustion engines due to the way the wear and electric forklifts have much less moving parts so less to go wrong or wear out.
